With a library card, you can borrow books, magazines, graphic novels, DVDs, CDs, and much more!
If an item is not currently available, be sure to place a hold to reserve your place in line for it. And, if your loan period is coming to an end, feel free to renew — subject to certain conditions.

Borrowing
Loan Periods
Most items are loaned for 3 weeks. A notable exception are book club sets, which you can borrow for 6 weeks.
Loan Limits
You may borrow a maximum of 75 items at one time*. There are individual limits on specialty items, however, which include:
- Bestseller Express Books and Video Games (limit of 5)
- Express View TV and Movie DVDs (limit of 5)
- CDs, DVDs, and Magazines (limit of 25)
- Kobo eReaders (limit of 1)
- Chromebooks (limit of 1)
*Please note that for the first 30 days after getting their library card, new borrowers are limited to 5 items checked out at one time.
Holds
You may place a maximum of 75 items on hold at one time. Log into the library catalogue, search for, and place holds on any desired items.
You will receive a notice by email when a hold of yours is ready. You can pick up holds at either Main Branch or Queensborough Branch.

Renewals
You can renew items, allowing you to keep them for longer than the original loan period.
Most items are renewed on the due date by our automatic renewal system.
You receive a total of 2 automatic renewals and are eligible for an additional 3 manual renewals.

How to renew items:
- Go to our website and log into your account to renew items under Loans.
- Call our automated 24-hour renewals system at 604-527-4686.
- Call the library during regular hours of operation at 604-527-4667.
- Renew items in-person at our service desks or by using our checkout machines at at either Main Branch or Queensborough Branch.
Items may be renewed unless:
- The item is on hold for someone else.
- You have reached the maximum number of renewals.
- The item is an Express View TV or Movie DVD.
- The item is a Bestseller Express book.
- You have one or more items more than 2 weeks overdue.
- You have more than 5 items overdue.
Fees
Borrowing at New Westminster Public Library is free and we do not charge fines for overdue items. However, we do charge the following fees for services and/or item replacement:
- Damaged or lost items: The cost to replace the item. If the item is returned, the charge will be waived.
- Interlibrary loans: $1 for any interlibrary loan not picked up.
- Printing and photocopying: The cost to print and photocopy is $0.20 per page. Scanning is free.

PUBLIC LIBRARY INTERLINK
Public Library InterLINK is a group of libraries from the Lower Mainland, Fraser Canyon, and Whistler areas. Residents of these communities can go to any member library and register to borrow material. Please bring your home library card and identification with you.
BC ONECARD
If you are visiting a region of BC outside the InterLINK area, you can register at any InterLINK library. When you get to your destination, take your home library card and current ID to the local library and ask for the OneCard decal.
